Welcome to my portfolio. Here you’ll find a selection of my work. All of these articles were written for either my University's newspaper, The Tropolitan, or my blog All Ears. I mostly write on a music beat for The Tropolitan and write exclusively on a music beat for All Ears.
As the sun gets higher and the nights get warmer, summertime anthems start to cycle through everyone’s playlists, and no one’s sound is more synonymous with the warmest season than Frank Ocean.
Frank Ocean is undeniably an oppressive force in poolside playlists. It’s hard to find a single person who does not include at least one Frank Ocean song in their sounds of the summer.
Dijon, a titular figure in expressionist lyricism and vocal performance, pushes the boundaries of his strained voice and his sweeping production on his single “coogie.”
Currently his only official release following his 2021 album “Absolutely,” Dijon’s 2023 single “coogie” dials the guttural expressionism shown on his songs like “Rodeo Clown” to 11 and shoves the boundaries of his vocal performance to the other end of the room.
farewell sounds like reconnecting with a familiar face. The native-born Bostonian producer weaves notes of his personal life into his melancholic but warm and welcoming lofi production, often drawing inspiration from dusty records dug from local crates.
Trophy Wife is a punk band, authentic and undiluted in their gut wrenching, evocative songwriting. The trio holds an unabashed devotion to traditional feminist punk music with modern mixing and techniques.
While their instrumentation can often be simply defined as powerful and layered, their guitars will break out into screaming solos and wailing anecdotes. The star of the show is vocalist McKenzie Iazzetta, though, and listeners can be led to believe the instrumentation is more simple to elevate her and her expressive singing.
